Classes at BSB

P1000147 JUNE 2009 wJC graduation 002 Vanessa

Our primary goal at BSB is to provide our students with a solid foundation of technique through proper ballet training. Then, once they have that strong foundation, we encourage them to broaden their "vocabulary" of dance movement and skills by learning additional styles of dance.

If at any time, while browsing our class section, you have a question please don't hesitate to call us at 818-845-8856 or send us an e-mail at info@burbankballet.com.

Character

Character is a a stylized type of dancing derived from folk-dance forms, but based upon classical ballet technique.  All students Ballet 3 and up are required to take Character dance.

Tap

Tap is a wonderful compliment to classical ballet.  It develops a sense of rhythm, timing and phrasing.  BSB classes focus on tap technique, music awareness, steps, combinations and routines.

Jazz

Jazz is quite popular due to its use on television shows, movies, music videos and commercials.  Jazz is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, leaps and turns.  To excel in jazz, it is recommended that a dancer have a background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is a dance style that combines elements of ballet, modern, Jazz, and tap dance techniques.  The goal of a lyrical dancer is to use gesture, facial expression, and controlled movements in order to execute their movements and emotions fully. Besides emotional connection to music, lyrical dance typically encourages use of articulation, line, weight, and movement qualities.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a form of dance influenced by classical ballet and modern dance. It applies technique and pointe work from classical ballet, yet it permits a greater range of movement that may not adhere to the strict body lines set forth by traditional schools of ballet technique.

Hip Hop

HipHop dancing is an urban ethnic dance form that has gained popularity in recent years.  Although it appears to be an unstructured form of dance, there are movements and style that are characteristic of HipHop.  In keeping with BSB's focus on technique, BSB's hip hop instruction deconstructs and teaches students common hip hop steps, movements and musicality.

Stretch & Condition (Body Rolling & Restoration)

This class combines Yamuna Body Rolling and stretching techniques to leave you loose, open and strong. Yamuna Body Rolling is an innovative way to eliminate stiff, sore muscles and restore maximum mobility.
